Trees that is.

The kids and I always had an artifical tree because being a single mom I was determined that they would at least have a christmas tree each year. Dan never had an artifical tree and he was being snobby. Well last year our favorite tree farm sold. We don't know if there is going to be any more tree farms out here. So we decided to get a small (5') tree that is already pre-lit. Dan hates that part of decorating a tree. His sisters always did it in their family and my dad always did that in ours. He is thrilled to be getting out of that part. Our decorations are blue and white. The lights used to be blue and white but the new tree will have multi-colored bulbs. So it will be interesting. My mom went through her decorations the year that Dad died so she split up them and gave each of us kids our favorites. I got the Teddy Bear on snow shoes because my oldest loved it his first Christmas.

We used to do a real tree but then I decided that the money spent on the tree should be spent on the kid's Christmas presents. Sooooo now we have a prelit artificial tree. I love it. Take it outta the box and it is set up in about 20 mins. Once I figure out how to hook the lights up!!! Then at the end of the season down it goes back into the box. No needles to vacuum up or dig outta the dogs fur!! I'll post a pic when I get it up!

Okay, Mr. Know it all is at it again. After Christimas I usually look at Lowe's ,Home Depot or nurseries for left over living Christimas trees. I can't remember exactly but none of these beauties cost more than $10.00, I think one was $3.00. I leave them in the container and shape them until the next Christimas, they are usually between 6-7' tall by then and we have a living tree which my wife decorates while I gently makes comments. After the holidays, I plant them in the ground or give them to someone who need a tree for their yard. The kids named these "The Three Wise Men", since they are in their 30's and 40's, I don't have the heart to tell them, they are Leland Cypress, which seem to do well in our area. They have tiny berries which the Cardinals enjoy; the cardinals look at me and say cheep but I think they mean cheap.

Oh My Gosh! I'm so envious!!! The first year in the riverhouse we tried that and it died!! Then the second year it did okay except the top died. Now we have a "Christmas bush" out in front of the cabin but it seems to be coming back.
Maybe the 3rd time is a charm. But we will stick with the big artificial tree for in the house. We purchased it in Missouri because one year the price of trees just went out of sight!!

Jacie that middle bush also did the top dying thing. I thought it was a gonner but I cut the dead out and kept it wet when it needed it and look at it now, it actually has two tops. It really bushed out when it recovered.

Well you would never know it looking at the picture! Our little one seems to be taking off now and it will also have 2 tops.

Cool. I wanna do the living Christmas tree thing. Especailly after I move in a few years. I would prolly plant one for each grandchild. That is if I ever get any.
