Keeping away the fox

The fox has got 4 of my chickens now and i'd like to know if anyone knows anyways to keep him away from our garden? I've heard about those things that emit high-pitched noises but they would scare our cats away aswell! Is there any sort of smelly thing that only foxes can smell?
Cheri

Hm.....I don't know of anything but you have reminded me of a category I had forgotten.
Missi

I don't know, either. But I've been wondering the same thing except I'm trying to get rid of a skunk.
Cheri

Mr. Stinky still around Miss?

Coyota

A coyote has got two of my cochin hens and a guinea in the last three days. I don't know what to do either but I have been trying to get a shot at him. I thinking about drastic measures, let you know how it comes out. Right now I have the ladies in lock down, he only gets them when they free range.
Cheri

Oh man I know that has to suck! Keep us posted.

Coyote

I talked to our county game warden today, for real, he is also a comedian. Super nice guy, first thing he told me was just put salt on the coyote tail and he would never be back. Then he got serious, he said we had an explosion of coyotes this year and do what I had to, to protect my flock. I ask him what that meant, he winked and said do what you have to do. He told me that a lady in her 80's had called him Friday and they had taken her 11 hens and also a litter of kittens from her barn. Poor thing had seen them get the kittens and could do nothing. I asked him what he did and he said, Ms. So and So's place is better protected now than Fort Knox. Anyway, I guess I have no choice but declare open season if they come near my chicks again. This county has over 21,000 acres of national forrest and much undeveloped land, so it not like they are lacking space, just looking for an east meal.

We had a coyote prob a few years ago. They were taking my goats right outta my back yard!!! Well I bought Mr. Donkey. We have not had a problem with coyotes or stray dogs since. He has earned his keep! Plus he is the sweetest thing in the world. He loves me and the kids. If the kids go out to play in the pasture he is always at their side. While I'm out doing all the feedings he follows at my heels! I just love Mr. Donkey!
Cheri

I don't know if I have enough room for a Mr. Donkey.

Where is Mr. Coyote

I still have my ladies under lock down in their big yard, can't free range until i get this sucker. Do you think on of the miniture donkeys would work, i been looking for a reason to get one.
judymae

I'd ask a breeder. They will tell you whether or not a minature donkey can be aggressive. I bought Mr. Donkey because the breeder had an ad up that stated they were good coyote deterients (sp?). It worked!! My donkey isn't much bigger than a minature. He is really short! Just so cute. It's funny how something so aggressive towards coyotes and stray dogs can be so loving towards us.
Cheri

Birdhill if you get that miniature donkey I will be at your house in a snap! She is so cute!! If I had the money I would have already bought her.
